Job SummaryThe Nursing Support Technician (NST), under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse, and/or the Physician, provides age‑appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintains a safe environment, collects information, communicates effectively, and utilizes technology. Provides personal care of selected patients, assists with activities of daily living, provides comfort measures and nourishment, and performs selected tasks and therapies as delegated by a licensed professional.
The NST primarily functions in the inpatient settings. The role of the NST also includes patient advocacy, teaching, and performance improvement. In addition, the NST roles include performing both basic and advanced skills and tasks as determined by competency validation. NSTs may be cross‑trained to serve as a patient safety monitor and/or unit clerk.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required.
- Must meet one of the following credentialing requirements:
- Current Georgia Nursing Assistant Certification.
- Current Certificate of completion from an accredited Patient Care Technician (PCT) program.
- Completion of a Basic Nursing Fundamentals course, documented on an official transcript from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Prior clinical experience in behavioral health, mental health, or medical psychiatry setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients experiencing acute or chronic psychiatric conditions.
PRN staff must be flexible with regard to floating to other areas within the department as needed. They are considered the first to float in order to assure safe staffing requirements across the nursing units. Weekend Requirements
- One (1) weekend shift per 4‑week schedule.
- (Friday 7pm – Monday 7am)
- Must work two (2) holidays per year:
- One major (Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s)
- One minor (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day or Martin Luther King Day)
