OverviewThe Sr Manager of Oncology Financial Navigation manages and coordinates financial navigation services across Winship sites, ensuring patients access needed financial resources. This role includes developing strategies to help patients manage their financial responsibilities, supervising a team of financial navigators, providing training and support, standardizing processes, and collaborating with revenue cycle, pharmacy and clinical teams to address financial barriers faced by patients.
The manager reports to Winship leadership, establishes and meets operational workflow, productivity and results standards, monitors performance, provides performance feedback, addresses problems, hires, orients and trains employees, and participates in professional activities to maintain knowledge of current trends.
- Develop strategies to help patients manage financial responsibilities.
- Supervise a team of oncology financial navigators monitoring in-house accounts for revenue and timely payment of claims.
- Provide training, support, and standardize processes.
- Collaborate with revenue cycle, pharmacy, and clinical teams to address financial barriers.
- Establish, meet, and exceed operational workflow, productivity and results standards.
- Organize, manage, and monitor performance; provide ongoing performance feedback.
- Hire, orient, and train employees.
- Coordinate professional development plans with managers.
- Attend educational in‑services as appropriate.
- Participate in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge.
- Act as key resource on patient financial navigation matters.
- Perform regular review of team quality and skills.
- Anticipate growth needs; train staff as appropriate.
- Liaise between external customers and stakeholders for all Winship financial navigation services.
- Monitor pre‑payment process cost estimates and follow guidelines.
- Maintain patient confidentiality; comply with HIPAA and compliance guidelines.
- Have knowledge of Emory processes from registration to billing.
- Resolve billing and customer satisfaction inquiries.
- Provide financial assistance for assigned sections when required.
- Maintain knowledge base of patient financial assistance and co‑pay programs.
- Collaborate with physicians, care delivery team, Social Workers, and Clinical staff.
- Perform all aspects of benefits verification.
- Require knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and third‑party carriers, referrals and pre‑certification procedures.

- Bachelor's Degree required in healthcare administration, or a related area.
- 5‑7 years of total experience with 3‑5 years of management experience
- Minimum of 2 years of oncology financial navigation or equivalent education and experience
- Some travel may be required between EHC site locations
- Demonstrates understanding in managing resources across an organization to maximize impact in multiple clinical specialties
- Experience with ambulatory care environments and ability to embed standard operating procedures
- Maintains standards of professional practice, strict confidentiality, advocacy and ethics.
- Adheres to department and organizational policies and procedures.

- Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills and discretion in all communications.
- High level of initiative and ability to self‑direct to solve financial problems of patients.
- Exceptional communication, conflict resolution, organization, follow‑up and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work in a high‑volume caseload environment.
- Ability to utilize software relevant to the job, including Microsoft Office Suite, medical records systems and medical billing systems.
