OverviewThis role is designated for the RCP who has achieved RCP I expertise on the clinical, departmental and professional level. Employs the use of evidence‑based practice, department and service area initiatives, and grows individually as a professional. Adheres to the Emory Behavioral Standards. Adheres to the Emory Service Culture Guidelines. Provides Patient and Family Centered Care. Consistently meets departmental/hospital quality & safety goals.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibility Category:
Level of Competency. Completes and maintains all competencies. Refers and guides others in the use of policies and procedures in the clinical setting. Assures competence to function if working in new area. Assures equipment is functioning properly and is ready for emergent situations; takes items out of service and reports failures as needed. Serves as a role model for peers.
Key Responsibility Category:
Assumption of Duties. Assesses unit work and reports to supervisor/charge, anticipates needs. Provides mentor‑level support for respiratory care practitioner I. Assists with patient care team discussions during complex patient care situations. Competent in clinical areas as appropriate. Competent and functions as a preceptor. Must complete Preceptor course. Competent in 1 of the following critical/specialty care areas: NICU, ICU, ECMO, CVICU, ED, CPET, Pulmonary Rehab IP (interventional pulmonary) etc.
Other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibility Category:
Service Area Support. Encouraged to participate as a super user for department‑related in‑services and annual skill sessions. Suggests modifications to care to patient care team. Acquires resources not readily available. Serves as a resource for ventilator management. Regularly attends department meetings (75%). Regularly attends in‑services and educational offerings.
Key Responsibility Category:
Professional Activity. Supports the evaluation of new equipment. Reviews policies and procedures to guide practice. Highly encouraged to attend one professional local, state or national respiratory conference every two years. Serves as a preceptor/mentor for RCP level 1 respiratory therapists. 15 CE credits required annually.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Education:
Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care. Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Care or related science preferred. - Minimum Experience:
2 years or greater. Employees may work independently under the general direction of their leader. - Licensure/Certification:
Currently licensed as an active Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Georgia. - Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- Active membership in American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC).
- ECMO training certification
- Intubation certification
- FCCS instructor
- PALS certification
- NRP certification
- AARC Pulmonary Disease Educator Certificate
- AARC Asthma Educator Certificate
- AARC Pulmonary Rehabilitation certificate
- BLS required
- ACLS required for adult critical care within 6 months of hire
