Overview
As Director of Engineering – Cloud Platform & Dev Ops, you will own the design, build-out, and operation of Evergreen.
AI’s cloud infrastructure and internal platform capabilities. This is a deeply hands-on leadership role for someone who has built cloud platforms from scratch and knows how to scale them reliably in fast-moving, startup-like environments.
You will be responsible for establishing Evergreen.
AI’s cloud foundation across Azure (primary), AWS, and GCP, enabling engineering teams to ship quickly while maintaining enterprise-grade security, reliability, and cost control. This role is about building real production platforms — not experiments — and creating the tooling, processes, and teams needed to support rapid growth.
Platform Engineering Leadership:
Build and lead a high-performing platform / Dev Ops organization; establish clear ownership, on-call models, career paths, and engineering standards in a startup context.
Hands-On Infrastructure Build-Out:
Personally lead and contribute to the implementation of Kubernetes platforms, IaC foundations, CI/CD pipelines, and environment bootstrapping (dev → staging → prod).
Delivery & Reliability Excellence:
Establish production-grade operational practices including monitoring, alerting, incident response, runbooks, SLOs/SLAs, and multi-region resiliency strategies.
Dev Sec Ops & Governance:
Implement secure SDLC practices, secrets management, identity and access controls, vulnerability scanning, and compliance-ready workflows (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR).
Cost, Scale & Performance Optimization:
Own cloud cost management, capacity planning, autoscaling strategies, and performance optimization as the platform scales.
Internal Enablement:
Build self-service tooling, developer platforms, and golden paths that enable product and AI teams to move fast without compromising stability.
Qualifications- 10+ years of experience in software engineering or infrastructure, with 4+ years leading platform, Dev Ops, or cloud engineering teams.
- Proven hands-on experience building cloud platforms from scratch in Azure (required); experience with AWS and GCP strongly preferred.
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud-native architectures.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, Pulumi), CI/CD systems, and release automation.
- Hands-on knowledge of networking, IAM, security architecture, and zero-trust patterns in cloud environments.
- Experience designing multi-environment, multi-region production systems with high availability requirements.
- Proven experience leading engineering organizations that have implemented agentic approaches to augment and enhance SDLC practices (e.g. AI-assisted development, testing, code review, deployment, and operational workflows).
- Startup or scale-up experience building tools, processes, and teams with minimal existing structure.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and execution skills in fast-changing environments.
- Advanced degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
