Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
Travelers Data Engineering team constructs pipelines that contextualize and provide easy access to data by the entire enterprise. As a Lead Data Engineer you will work with business partners to modernize design standards and development practices to grow and transform our analytics landscape. Your ability to design, build and deploy data solutions that capture, explore, transform, and utilize data will support Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and business intelligence/insights.
As a data and technology subject matter expert you will influence strategy, support delivery, and translate complex data into user-friendly terminology to educate end users on data products and the analytic environment.

What Will You Do?
Lead Design, development configuration, and/or maintenance for Gen AI applications, including data ingestion, processing, storage, and analysis
Support the creation of Gen AI products within our cloud environments
Guide and coach technical team members
Collaborate with tech/ data partners, business stakeholders, data scientists and engineers to create Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions and integrate LLM models into production-grade applications.
Develop APIs and microservices to facilitate data access and integration across various components of the Gen AI platform.
Implement best practices for code quality, testing, and documentation to ensure the reliability, maintainability, and scalability of our software systems.
Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering and Gen AI, applying them to enhance our platform.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field;
Master's degree preferred.
Ten years of programming/development experience preferred.
Four years of Tech leadership experience
Proven experience as a Full Stack Designer / architect or similar role, with a strong focus on data engineering and Gen AI applications.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and related services (e.g., AWS Lambda, S3, EC2, RDS, Redshift).
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS.
Strong understanding of database systems and data processing frameworks (e.g., SQL, No
SQL, Spark, Databricks).
Good understanding and experience of Gen AI concepts like Agentic Frameworks, RAG, LLM, Chunking, and Hyper-parameters.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams.
What is a Must Have?
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
