Position: Application Developer (College of Computing)

Overview

Application Developers are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software applications that support the institution's goals and meet user needs. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, and implementing effective solutions to enhance application functionality, performance, and user experience. The developer ensures that applications are scalable, secure, and aligned with best practices in software development.

Job Summary

This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, and implementing effective solutions to enhance application functionality, performance, and user experience. The developer ensures that applications are scalable, secure, and aligned with best practices in software development.

Responsibilities
  • Job Duty 1 - Design, develop, and implement software applications that meet user requirements and align with institutional objectives.
  • Job Duty 2 - Perform testing and debugging of applications to identify and resolve issues, ensuring optimal functionality and performance.
  • Job Duty 3 - Maintain and update existing software applications, implementing enhancements and modifications based on user feedback and technological advancements.
  • Job Duty 4 - Document application development processes, including design specifications, user manuals, and technical documentation for future reference.
  • Job Duty 5 - Participate in project management activities, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation, to ensure timely delivery of application development projects.
  • Job Duty 6 - Stay current with industry trends and best practices in application development, incorporating new technologies and methodologies as appropriate.
  • Job Duty 7 - Provide technical support and training to end-users, assisting them in effectively utilizing software applications to enhance their productivity.
  • Job Duty 8 - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate applications with other systems and ensure seamless data exchange across platforms.
  • Job Duty 9 - Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements, ensuring that applications address the needs of various departments and users.
  • Job Duty 10 - Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications

    Educational Requirements
    Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience.

    Required Experience
    6+ years of relevant experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred Educational Qualifications
    Master's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience.

    Degree & Experience Preferred

    • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
    • Experience in a university or higher education environment is preferred
    • Familiarity with application security methodologies and service oriented architecture

    Skills Preferred

    • Managing websites using content management systems (e.g., Word Press)
    • Understanding of usability best practices and accessibility standards (Title II)
    • Extensive experience with PHP (specifically with Symfony framework), Python, and Java Script
    • Experience working with databases such as MySQL, Oracle, or other databases
    • Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments, including terminal usage, bash scripting, SSH, and Apache configuration
