Job SummaryThe Digital Accessibility Manager develops and maintains a comprehensive, governance-driven digital accessibility program ensuring compliance with the 2024 Title II Digital Accessibility Rule. The manager also provides targeted training and communication that promote compliance with accessibility standards and regulatory requirements, and oversees employee goal setting, performance assessment, and pay recommendations. The role interacts consistently with students, staff, and faculty.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain an institute-wide system for assessing and improving accessibility.
- Develop and implement communication and remediation plans to support ongoing compliance with digital accessibility regulations, including ADA Title II.
- Establish and maintain systems for regular accessibility audits; collaborate with IT teams, designers, and content creators to enhance the accessibility of websites, software, and digital content.
- Participate in the digital procurement process by reviewing Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) and conducting risk assessments for proposed tools and technologies.
- Provide guidance on the creation of equally effective alternative access plans and undue burden documentation in cases of accessibility compliance in feasibility.
- Keep up to date on key developments in state and federal digital accessibility laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Directly manage and partner with project teams in integrating accessibility into workflows, ensuring compliance at every stage of digital content development.
- Address accessibility inquiries from staff, vendors, and stakeholders, offering solutions for improving access to digital resources.
- Assist institutional effort to review and remediate digital documents to meet current accessibility guidelines.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or equivalent, related experience. - Experience:
3+ years of relevant experience; 1+ years of supervisory knowledge.
- Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), preferred.
- Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), or other accessibility-related certifications, preferred.
- Master's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience.
- 5+ years of management experience.
- 3-5 years in UX design, web strategy or web lifecycle design.
- 5+ years of experience leading or supporting enterprise digital accessibility initiatives, governance programs, or compliance operations.
$93,708 - $125,000, depending on experience and preferred skills.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Abilities- Ability to apply sections of the law to specific accessibility scenarios.
- Ability to develop and implement communication plans to support initiatives.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to provide recommendations for overall procedure improvement.
- Ability to manage direct reports and partner with project teams.
- Demonstrated knowledge of WCAG 2.1 A/AA, Section 508, and ADA digital accessibility standards.
- Demonstrated understanding of accessibility testing tools such as Axe, WAVE, JAWS, NVDA, Voice Over.
- Proven experience working with website content management systems (CMS) and HTML/CSS for accessibility improvements.
- Established experience conducting accessibility audits (automated and manual).
- Advanced skill training in internal staff on accessibility best practices and tools.
- Strong organization skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with website and PDF accessibility scanning and remediation tools such as Dub Bot, Common Look, etc.
Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check.
