Job Description & How to Apply Below

Commerce is seeking a Lead Technical Product Manager to drive the execution and evolution of Catalyst, Big Commerce’s next-generation storefront architecture powered by Next.js, React, and the Storefront Graph

QL API. The role is heavily technical and requires deep hands‑on knowledge of Type Script, React, Next.js, Graph

QL, SDK design, and edge hosting.

Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain the Catalyst roadmap across all product lanes, ensuring they converge into a coherent product strategy.
  • Define the product experience vision through sketches, mockups, prototypes, and documentation.
  • Prioritize execution paths by balancing developer experience, feature support, hosting infrastructure, and architectural modernization.
  • Define the public API surface for SDKs, including versioning semantics and developer-facing contracts.
  • Lead the modernization of adjacent product areas into native, API-first implementations within the Catalyst framework.
  • Drive the Native Hosting product from alpha through GA, including CLI experience, deployment architecture, custom domain assignment, usage metering, and pricing strategy.
  • Own monetization strategy and product growth drivers for Native Hosting and the broader Catalyst ecosystem.
  • Establish KPIs and monitor performance against goals such as live storefronts, GMV, churn rate, reported bugs, MRR, and partner sentiment.
  • Understand and monitor the competitive landscape and build dashboards, reporting, and automations for self-serve metrics.
  • Ensure APIs, SDKs, and documentation enable AI coding agents to build on the platform.
  • Champion developer experience, designing comprehensive SDK strategies and documentation architectures that serve both human developers and AI agents.
  • Build and cultivate a thriving developer community through engagement, content, and ecosystem partnerships.
  • Manage expectations with internal stakeholders, present a unified narrative, and keep partners and GTM teams informed.
  • Write and publish public documentation, release notes, and a single source of truth for Catalyst functionality.
  • Coordinate cross-team dependencies across Storefront, Checkout, B2B, Makeswift, and Infrastructure to ensure API-first development flow.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Business Development, Sales, and Engineering leadership to align product vision and execution.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of technical product management experience, with at least 2 years focused on developer platforms, SDKs, APIs, or framework-level products.
  • Deep, hands‑on fluency with modern front-end web technology:
Type Script, React, Next.js, and Node.js.
  • Strong understanding of Graph

QL API design, schema modeling, and query patterns.
  • Experience with edge computing platforms or serverless architecture, ideally Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects, KV, and R2.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a complex, multi-team technical initiative from vision through phased execution to GA.
  • Pragmatic, iterative approach to execution, breaking ambiguous problems into deliverables with clear exit criteria.
  • Experience owning pricing, packaging, and go‑to‑market strategy for technical products.
  • Comfort operating at the intersection of engineering, design, and go‑to‑market, producing both technical RFCs and sales enablement briefs.
  • Excellent written communication—concise, precise, and high-signal documentation, strategy, and release notes.
  • Must reside in the United States; preference for candidates located in Austin, TX or Atlanta, GA.
  • Experience with ecommerce platforms, headless commerce, or composable architecture patterns.
  • Familiarity with visual builder or CMS products and their integration into developer frameworks.
  • Experience building or managing developer CLI tools and scaffolding workflows.
  • Background in developer relations, developer experience, or open-source product management.
  • Understanding of OAuth 2.0, JWT, and modern API security patterns.
  • Experience with API monetization and usage‑based pricing models.
