Project Overview

The Georgia Department of Labor (GA DOL) IT Division requires an onsite Computer Operator 2 to support its centralized data center operations. The position ensures uninterrupted state-wide application availability, transaction monitoring, and critical facilities support.

This role operates on a strict, specialized weekend-centric shift schedule:

  • Weekend Shift: Saturday & Sunday, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (24 hours).
  • Weekday Shift: An additional 16 hours flexible across any shift (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) during Monday–Friday to reach a full 40-hour week.
Duties / Responsibilities
  • Systems Monitoring:
    Under limited supervision, monitor BPE/TPE transactions and production jobs across distributed enterprise servers running AIX, Linux, and Windows.
  • Data Center Infrastructure:
    Actively monitor all environmental, security, electrical, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies), generators, raised flooring, and HVAC systems within the Mainframe/Data Center complex.
  • Network Surveillance:
    Monitor core network systems (LAN/WAN, MPLS, TCP/IP, and SNA) to verify and maintain secure, uninterrupted statewide system access.
  • Operations & Production Control:
    Use automated job schedulers (Control-M) and management software to oversee production environments and coordinate hardware/software maintenance with external vendors.
  • Incident & Quality Management:
    Enforce strict Change, Incident, and Asset management procedures (ITIL framework). Ensure all printed and processed data outputs are high-quality and completely defect-free.
Education
  • Vocational/Technical degree in an IT-related field from an accredited college AND 2 years of related experience; OR equivalent blended work experience in IT.
Required Experience
  • 2+ years of experience as a Computer Operator inside a large-scale Data Center.
  • 2+ years of experience working within a Network Operations Center (NOC).
  • 2+ years of experience utilizing BMC Control-M automated job scheduling software.
  • 2+ years of experience with Production Control and TPE/BPE Manager.
  • 2+ years of experience with infrastructure monitoring (HVAC, UPS, fire suppression, and raised data center floor plans).
  • 2+ years of experience with Incident, Change, and Asset Management frameworks (ITIL).
  • 2+ years of hands-on familiarity with AIX, Linux, and Windows server environments.
  • Prior experience supporting State and/or Federal Government agency networks (Highly Desired).
