Position: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF AI TRANSFORMATION

JOB SUMMARY:

CARE USA is seeking an Executive Director of AI Transformation to lead the organization’s enterprise-wide artificial intelligence agenda. This role will position AI as a core strategic capability to accelerate impact, strengthen operational resilience, and enhance financial sustainability across CARE’s global portfolio.

As a senior enterprise leader, the Executive Director will define CARE’s AI vision and translate it into a scalable, value-driven portfolio of initiatives across country offices, programs, supply chain, finance, and shared services. The role bridges strategy and execution—ensuring AI is not treated as a standalone innovation stream, but embedded into how CARE delivers its mission.

This role will be instrumental in shaping CARE’s future operating model—leveraging AI to enable smarter decision‑making, improve program effectiveness, optimize cost structures, and unlock new delivery and funding models.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enterprise AI Strategy & Portfolio Leadership
  • Define and own CARE’s AI strategy and multi-year roadmap, aligned with organizational priorities and Digital Transformation objectives
  • Establish a prioritized, enterprise-wide AI portfolio focused on high‑impact use cases (program delivery, supply chain, finance, risk, and operations)
  • Create clear governance, investment, and prioritization frameworks to ensure disciplined execution and resource allocation
  • Translate emerging AI capabilities into scalable, context-relevant solutions for diverse country office environments
Embedding AI into CARE’s Operating Model
  • Drive integration of AI into core business processes, decision‑making frameworks, and service delivery models
  • Partner with Digital, IT, and functional leaders to operationalize AI solutions within existing systems (ERP, supply chain, program platforms)
  • Enable “AI as a service” capability across CARE—ensuring reusable tools, platforms, and standards
  • Support country offices in adopting AI solutions tailored to local contexts, constraints, and opportunities
Adoption, Change & Capability Development/Governance, Risk & Responsible AI
  • Lead global AI adoption through structured change management, leadership engagement, and communication strategies
  • Build organizational capability through training, learning pathways, and communities of practice
  • Partner with People & Culture and Knowledge Management to embed AI literacy and data-driven decision‑making across the workforce
  • Establish and lead an AI Taskforce to coordinate adoption, share best practices, and scale successful pilots
  • Establish and enforce enterprise AI governance aligned with CARE’s ethical principles, safeguarding standards, and environmental commitments
  • Ensure responsible and inclusive AI deployment, particularly in vulnerable and low-resource settings
  • Partner with Legal, Risk and Information Security to manage regulatory, data privacy and cybersecurity risks
  • Maintain forward‑looking awareness of global AI regulations and ensure organizational readiness
Value Realization & Performance Management/External Positioning & Strategic Partnerships
  • Define and track enterprise AI value—efficiency gains, cost optimization, program outcomes, and risk reduction
  • Build a transparent AI performance dashboard, covering pipeline, delivery status, and realized impact
  • Ensure strong linkage between AI investments and financial sustainability objectives
  • Provide regular reporting and strategic insights to Executive Leadership and Board Committees
  • Position CARE as a leader in AI for humanitarian and development impact
  • Engage donors, technology partners, and innovation platforms to mobilize funding and co‑create solutions
  • Lead CARE’s engagement with AI advisory groups and strategic partners (e.g., cloud, data, and AI providers
  • Translate CARE’s AI work into compelling narratives that strengthen partnerships and unlock new funding streams
