POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Director (Device Management & Technology Operations) plays a strategic role in ensuring the seamless operation and continuous improvement of technology services across the district. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of district devices, optimizing service delivery frameworks, and supporting digital learning through the strategic integration of cloud platforms such as Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft Teams, and Schoology.
With a deep understanding of digital equity, accessibility, and sustainable technology practices, the Assistant Director drives operational excellence by aligning IT workflows with instructional and administrative priorities. The role demands a data-driven mindset to analyze performance metrics, streamline processes, and proactively address issues that may impact instructional continuity.
The successful candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to lead cross-functional teams, and the capacity to manage vendor relationships, budgets, and technical infrastructure with accountability. This individual will be a strategic thinker capable of balancing long-term planning with day-to-day incident resolution while fostering a culture of service excellence and innovation.
The Assistant Director is expected to demonstrate expertise in help desk operations, device management systems such as JAMF, Intune, and Google Admin Console, and IT service management frameworks. Working in close collaboration with Instructional Technology, the Assistant Director will ensure device and system readiness to support modern learning environments and promote equitable access to technology for all students and staff. This includes supporting hybrid, blended, and remote learning models through reliable infrastructure and platform integration.
This position directly supervises several key roles within the IT department, including Device Engineer and Device Management Specialist, ensuring effective coordination of technical support, system configuration, and lifecycle management initiatives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field is required.
- A Master's degree or advanced certification in IT management or a related discipline is preferred.
- CERTIFICATION:
- PMP preferred but not required
- WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in IT service delivery, device management, or related IT operations.
- At least 3 years in a leadership or management role overseeing IT service teams and device lifecycle management.
- Experience in K-12 environment implementing a one-to-one initiative
- Solid understanding of educational cloud platforms and their infrastructure needs (e.g., Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft Teams for Education)
- Awareness of trends in digital equity, accessibility, and sustainable technology practices in school systems
- Advanced leadership skills in guiding technology teams through operational challenges and strategic initiatives
- Strong organizational and workflow optimization skills to improve IT responsiveness and service quality
- Proficient in synthesizing data from systems usage and performance metrics to inform process improvements
- Effective communicator capable of translating complex technology topics for non-technical audiences
- Skilled in building cross-departmental partnerships and managing external vendor relationships with accountability
- Competent in managing budgets, forecasting asset needs, and ensuring cost-effective resource allocation
- Ability to architect and maintain district-wide systems that support consistent, equitable access to learning devices
- Capacity to anticipate and proactively address operational issues before they impact instructional continuity
