Senior Communication Designer​/Email Template Designer

Through January 2027 with likely extensions

We are seeking a Customer Communications Designer to create and optimize customer-facing communication experiences across email and digital channels.

This role is focused on designing scalable email templates, customer messaging frameworks, notifications, onboarding communications, and other communication touchpoints that help customers understand information and take action.

The ideal candidate combines strong communication design skills, information architecture expertise, and solid copy-editing capabilities. They understand how to structure information, create effective communication systems, and deliver clear, customer-friendly experiences while working within established design systems and brand standards.

This is not a traditional Product Design or UX Design role. The primary focus is designing customer communications and messaging experiences at scale.

• Own end-to-end design execution for customer communication experiences.
• Design and maintain reusable email templates and communication systems.
• Create customer-facing communications including:
• Transactional emails
• Service notifications
• Onboarding communications
• Lifecycle communications
• Follow-up messaging
• Develop communication frameworks that improve customer understanding and engagement.
• Create clear information hierarchy and communication structures for short-form messaging.
• Design communication flows and decision paths across customer touchpoints.
• Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Content, and business stakeholders.
• Apply and reinforce established design systems, standards, and communication patterns.
• Conduct content QA and edge-case reviews to ensure consistency and quality.
• Continuously improve communication effectiveness, usability, and customer experience.
• Surface communication risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.

• 4+ years of Communication Design experience.

• Strong understanding of information hierarchy and content organization.
• Excellent written English skills, including editing, proofreading, and content QA.
• Ability to simplify complex concepts into clear, customer-friendly messaging.
• Experience working with Figma and modern digital design tools.
• Familiarity with accessibility best practices for written and digital communications.
• Experience applying and working within design systems.
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to partner with Product, Engineering, and business teams.

• Experience with CRM, lifecycle marketing, or customer engagement programs.
• Experience designing transactional communications and notification systems.
• Understanding of customer journey mapping and communication flows.
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale customer communication ecosystems.
• Exposure to conversational AI, voice interactions, or conversation design.
• Familiarity with marketing automation or customer communication platforms.

The hourly pay range for this position (dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location) is $45.00 to $50.00/hr benefits available to full-time employees: medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401k and commuter benefits.
