Hardware Engineer
Overview
Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is the nonprofit, applied research division of Georgia Tech, supporting more than 2,900 employees across over 20 laboratories worldwide.
PositionHardware Security and Trust Division (HST) within the Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research Laboratory (CIPHER) seeks a co‑op starting the Fall 2026 semester. The role focuses on developing software tools and hardware design to support research in microelectronics and embedded systems hardware security.
Responsibilities- Formal verification of cyber‑physical systems involving interactive theorem proving and model checking
- Investigate forefront technologies (software development, programming languages, hardware security controls, FPGAs, etc.) as they apply to microelectronic device security and trust
- Write, translate, and code software programs, applications, tools, and prototypes according to research goals
- Research and implement applications of hardware‑assisted technologies for cybersecurity efforts
- Design and implement meaningful visualizations of experimental test results and intermediary analysis data structures
- Review, analyze, and validate software and hardware functional designs
- Additional novel research objectives as instructed
Minimum Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
- Eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co‑op program and register for co‑op credit
- Able to complete at least three full‑time co‑op terms before graduation
- Experience with digital hardware and embedded systems (e.g., digital design, FPGAs, microcontrollers, circuit design, schematic capture)
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment and with standard laboratory test equipment
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, accountability, strategic thinking and planning, software development, debugging, teamwork, attention to detail, customer service focus
- Strong mathematical foundation including linear algebra, abstract algebra, real analysis, and logic
- Proficiency with Python and C, or proficiency with either language and familiarity with the other
- Ability to communicate technical ideas to non‑technical audiences
40 hours per week

ClearanceMust be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
