Overview
We are seeking a Senior VMware Infrastructure Engineer with deep expertise in VMware virtualization and enterprise storage technologies to design, engineer, implement, and optimize highly available, scalable infrastructure platforms. This role is responsible for the architecture, deployment, automation, performance tuning, and lifecycle management of VMware and storage environments supporting mission‑critical enterprise applications.
The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience engineering VMware solutions integrated with SAN, NAS, and hyperconverged infrastructure, along with strong knowledge of storage architecture, disaster recovery, and infrastructure automation.
Salary170k to 185k + bonus
Responsibilities- Design, engineer, and implement enterprise VMware infrastructure based on VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
- Architect highly available virtualization environments utilizing VMware HA, DRS, vMotion, Storage vMotion, Distributed Switches, and Lifecycle Manager.
- Engineer enterprise storage solutions supporting VMware workloads across Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and NFS environments.
- Design storage layouts, RAID configurations, datastore architecture, storage tiering, and capacity planning strategies.
- Configure and optimize SAN fabrics, zoning, LUN provisioning, multipathing, and storage connectivity.
- Lead infrastructure modernization initiatives, including hardware refreshes, VMware upgrades, storage migrations, and data center consolidation projects.
- Perform performance analysis and tuning across compute, storage, and virtualization layers to eliminate infrastructure bottlenecks.
- Engineer VMware vSAN and hyperconverged infrastructure solutions where applicable.
- Develop automation using PowerCLI, Power Shell, REST APIs, or Ansible to streamline infrastructure provisioning and operational tasks.
- Design and implement backup, replication, and disaster recovery solutions for virtualized workloads.
- Develop infrastructure standards, engineering documentation, implementation guides, and operational procedures.
- Conduct root cause analysis for complex infrastructure issues spanning virtualization, storage, networking, and server hardware.
- Evaluate emerging VMware and storage technologies and recommend architectural improvements.
- Collaborate with network, cloud, security, and systems engineering teams to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions.
- Participate in infrastructure architecture reviews and technical design sessions.
- Provide Tier III/IV engineering support for complex production incidents.
- 7+ years of enterprise infrastructure engineering experience.
- 5+ years designing and engineering VMware vSphere environments.
- Expert‑level experience with:
- VMware ESXi
- VMware vCenter
- VMware HA
- DRS
- Storage vMotion
- VMware Distributed Switches
- Lifecycle Manager
- Strong experience designing and supporting enterprise storage platforms such as:
- Dell EMC Power Store, Unity, or Power Max
- Net App ONTAP
- Pure Storage Flash Array
- HPE Alletra or Nimble
- IBM Flash System
- Strong understanding of:
- Fibre Channel SAN architecture
- Brocade or Cisco SAN switching
- iSCSI
- NFS
- Multipathing (MPIO)
- Storage replication
- Thin provisioning
- Snapshot technologies
- Experience with VMware vSAN and hyperconverged infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of server hardware including Dell Power Edge, Cisco UCS, or HPE Pro Liant platforms.
- Experience integrating VMware with enterprise backup platforms such as Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, or Dell Data Protection Suite.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills across compute, storage, networking, and virtualization domains.
- Experience with infrastructure automation using PowerCLI, Power Shell, Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools.
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV)
- VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP)
- VMware Cloud Foundation experience
- VMware NSX experience
- Dell EMC Proven Professional, Net App Certified Professional, or Pure Storage certifications
- Experience with Azure VMware Solution (AVS), VMware Cloud on AWS, or hybrid cloud environments
- Experience with Cisco UCS or Dell Vx Rail
- Knowledge of storage performance analysis and monitoring tools
- Familiarity with ITIL change management and enterprise operational practices
