Infrastructure Engineering Director

As the Infrastructure Engineering Director, you will own Fan Duel’s foundational cloud and outpost‑based infrastructure layer, establishing operational excellence, standardization, and reliability across compute, networking, Kubernetes, and cloud provisioning. This hands‑on leadership role sets the standard for infrastructure operations, ensuring systems run predictably with clear processes, documented procedures, and a culture that values doing things right.

• Establish infrastructure strategy and standards across cloud provisioning, observability, disaster recovery, and cost governance.
• Build and scale the infrastructure engineering team with operational rigor and discipline, creating career paths and developing engineers into senior and leadership roles.
• Own disaster recovery strategy, define RTO/RPO, test and maintain organizational readiness.
• Define SLOs/SLIs for foundational infrastructure services and balance trade‑offs between cost optimization and reliability.
• Design and evolve cloud infrastructure for resilience, cost, and operational clarity, managing AWS, outposts, Kubernetes orchestration, networking, mesh, and compute provisioning.
• Set standards for change management, incident response, post‑mortems, and continuous improvement, protecting engineers from burnout while encouraging rigorous work.
• Manage vendor relationships, cloud costs, and capacity planning, negotiating contracts and optimizing spend while supporting cloud adoption roadmap.
• Lead complex production incident response across infrastructure domains:
  Kubernetes, networking, DNS, load balancing, service mesh, and cloud services.
• Steward infrastructure platforms under strict regulatory and compliance requirements, ensuring secure operation and auditability.
• Partner with engineering and product leadership to influence platform direction, roadmap priorities, and long‑term infrastructure strategy.
• Evaluate build‑versus‑buy decisions and vendor capabilities against operational sustainability goals.
• Mentor engineers and elevate infrastructure, platform networking, and operational maturity throughout the organization.

• Significant experience leading platform engineering, SRE, or infrastructure organizations.
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes architecture, operations, and scaling, with knowledge of container orchestration, cluster design, and multi‑cluster management.
• Hands‑on understanding of AWS cloud infrastructure: VPCs, networking, IAM, EC2, EKS, cost management, and hybrid AWS environments including Outposts.
• Experience defining and driving platform, reliability, or infrastructure strategy across teams.
• Proven ability to establish documented runbooks, change management processes, incident response frameworks, and a blameless post‑mortem culture.
• Experience designing and implementing disaster recovery, RTO/RPO definitions, failover testing, and resilience improvements.
• Experience defining and implementing SLOs, SLIs, and alerting strategies for infrastructure services using user‑centric and business‑aligned metrics.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in at least one modern programming language, with the ability to build scalable tooling and automation.
• Track record of driving large‑scale operational improvements through automation, reducing toil, and preventing recurring issues.
• Understanding of cloud cost drivers and the ability to optimize spend without compromising reliability or team velocity.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, able to influence technical and non‑technical stakeholders and translate constraints into business impact.
• A mindset of ownership, continuous improvement, and long‑term platform sustainability.

• Experience with service mesh platforms (Kong Mesh, Istio, Linkerd, or Envoy‑based systems).
• Hands‑on experience managing AWS Outposts or hybrid cloud infrastructure.
• Experience operating infrastructure in regulated industries requiring network segmentation, auditability, security controls, and uptime.
