Planned and managed computerized mainframe Db2 for z/OS databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long‑range requirements, operational guidelines and protection. Ensured accuracy and completeness of data in master files and various support tools, such as base dictionaries. Established and maintained security and integrity controls. Formulated and monitored policies, procedures and standards relating to database management. Proposed and implemented enhancements that improved performance and reliability of the system.

- Performed testing of database software, utilities and fixes within a sandbox environment prior to production roll‑out; identified and resolved issues.
- Performed migration of tested/approved software, utilities and fixes to the production environment.
- Developed basic to moderately complex database configurations by creating database objects per specified business requirements and required sandbox environments for testing.
- Worked in close liaison with application developers to ensure best practices were applied to mitigate potential impacts to various user groups and other database configurations.
- Coached and mentored less experienced Database Administrators (DBAs) in routine/basic administration tasks.
- Scheduled database backup tasks and ensured proper completion; executed database recovery tasks during disaster‑recovery exercises.
- Ensured high availability of supported databases by actively monitoring performance to identify bottlenecks (inefficient queries, corrupt indexes, poor design) and provided corrective recommendations.
- Applied routine database tuning and optimization techniques, such as index rebuilds, to maintain performance; performed regular database statistics reporting.
- Worked closely with the Applications Team while troubleshooting to determine the source of application failures, assisted in developing solutions to minimize future failures, and supported implementation.
- Produced and maintained operational database documentation—including disaster recovery plans, recovery presentations, naming standards, performance and tuning—to ensure configurations were well documented.
- Assisted in training and familiarization of newer team members on company policies, procedures, techniques and current server/database configurations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with a relevant background.
- Typically a minimum of 8years of experience in Db2 for z/OS.
- Experience in installation, customization, testing and maintenance of database systems within a production environment.
- Bachelor’s Degree in an IT‑related field.
