Data BI Engineer
The Data BI Engineer will lead efforts in researching, designing, and implementing data-driven solutions for the Department of Aviation (DOA). This role focuses on creating visually compelling and actionable insights through Power BI and leveraging the Microsoft Power Platform suite to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enable informed decision-making across the organization. The engineer will work collaboratively with Airport Information Systems (AIS) and DOA stakeholders to define and deploy Analytics, Data Reporting, and Dashboarding solutions, fostering a culture of operational excellence and data storytelling.
The role includes contributing to all phases of Data Business Intelligence projects, from requirements gathering and design to testing and deployment. This position requires expertise in BI methodologies and proficiency with the Microsoft Power BI stack and other Power Platform tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research and Design
- Collaborates with stakeholders to define BI and Power Platform project requirements, metrics, and success criteria.
- Development and Deployment
- Creates, maintains, and optimizes visually compelling Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models.
- Develops solutions using the Microsoft Power Platform suite, including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI, to automate workflows, build custom applications, and enhance data analysis capabilities.
- Partners with business teams to define analytics requirements and deliver actionable insights.
- Implements data transformation processes, design robust data pipelines, and integrate Power Platform tools to support reporting and operational needs.
- Analysis and Insights
- Conducts advanced data analysis, predictive modeling, and statistical techniques to derive actionable insights.
- Analyzes, manipulates, and processes large datasets using Power Query and other appropriate tools.
- Identifies unique opportunities to collect, mine, and analyze data to drive operational improvements.
- Microsoft Power Platform Integration
- Builds custom applications using Power Apps to address specific operational needs, ensuring seamless integration with other systems.
- Automates and streamlines workflows using Power Automate to improve efficiency and reduce manual processes.
- Integrates Power BI with other Microsoft tools and services (e.g., SharePoint, Teams, Dynamics 365) to enhance collaboration and reporting.
- Documentation and Compliance
- Maintains comprehensive documentation, including data model schemas, architecture diagrams, Powers Platform workflows, reporting specifications, and data flow documentation.
- Ensures compliance with established data standards, governance principles, and architecture guidelines.
- Collaboration and Culture
- Fosters a data-driven culture by promoting the use of BI tools, Power Platform solutions, and storytelling to share insights.
- Trains and mentors stakeholders on Power BI and Power Platform capabilities, including data visualization and workflow automation best practices.
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Stays current with emerging technologies, Power Platform best practices, and industry trends to enhance the DOA's analytical and operational capabilities.
- Recommends and implements data-driven solutions that improve budgeting, staffing, marketing, and other operational decisions.
- Support and Leadership
- Collaborates with AIS and other teams to ensure data availability, quality, and consistency.
- Contributes to all phases of BI and Power Platform project life cycles, including testing, validation, and deployment.
- Drives innovation by exploring new uses for existing data and developing new processes or solutions using the Power Platform suite.

- Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental goals and objectives.
Knowledge
Skills and Abilities:
- Technical Expertise
- Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI and Tableau.
- Strong grasp of BI methodologies and implementation techniques.
- Familiarity with data modeling, visualization, and reporting best practices.

- Ability to identify and solve complex data problems.
- Expertise in transforming raw data into actionable insights.

- Experience in managing end-to-end BI projects.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education and Experience – 1. Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent work experience can be substituted for educational requirements.
- 2. Three (3) years of experience in years of experience in data analysis and visualization.
- 3. Proven track record of implementing BI solutions in large, complex organizations.
