We are seeking a Senior Apigee API Platform Development Engineer to lead the design, security, and management of our enterprise API gateway platform. You will leverage deep expertise in Apigee API traffic management, REST API security patterns, and CDN integration (Akamai) to ensure our APIs are scalable, secure, and high-performing.

In this role, you will:

• Provide architectural oversight for the Apigee platform
• Spearhead our transition from Apigee Edge to Apigee Hybrid deployment
• Design robust API proxies, shared flows, and traffic-control policies
• Implement advanced security standards (OAuth 2.0, mTLS, JWT, API keys)

This is a senior, hands-on role for an API Platform Engineer who has built and managed enterprise-grade API management solutions at scale.

Experience:

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• 5+ years focused on API management and the Google Apigee platform (Edge and/or Hybrid)
• Proven track record of designing, developing, and optimizing large-scale API solutions using Apigee in enterprise environments

Hands-on mastery of Apigee Edge and Apigee Hybrid

• Deep understanding of Apigee’s core architecture:
• Edge Management Server, Router, Message Processor
• Analytics services, Developer Portal
• Cassandra data store, Zoo Keeper coordination
• Ability to configure and troubleshoot the full Apigee stack – from API proxy design and shared flow development to tracing and underlying platform services

• Strong knowledge of REST API security standards and protocols:
• OAuth 2.0 (client credentials, authorization code flows)
• JSON Web Tokens (JWT)
• API key management, TLS/mTLS encryption
• Authentication/authorization policies in Apigee
• Experience integrating API gateways with enterprise identity providers (e.g., Ping Federate, Okta) for SSO and federated OAuth/JWT validation
• Familiarity with firewalls, DNS, load balancers, and WAF/CDN (e.g., Akamai) as they relate to API routing and threat protection

• Lead a high-impact migration from Apigee Edge to Hybrid
• Work on enterprise-scale API platforms serving millions of requests
• Be part of a collaborative team with a focus on security, performance, and reliability
