Directs the Defense Response Optimization (DROP) function, a horizontal cybersecurity team responsible for maximizing the operational use of security capabilities within the Security Defense organization. Leads cross-platform capability optimization and advanced Incident Response to translate new and existing technology features into repeatable investigation and response outcomes. Partners across Truist Protection Services to strengthen platform-native response, improve response processes, and transfer executable procedures into existing operational functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs the execution of short- to mid-term operational plans for the cybersecurity engineering job area, aligning team objectives and priorities with strategies set by senior leadership.
  • Manages the design, development, and deployment of cybersecurity solutions and frameworks for direct team, ensuring consistency, quality, and reuse across multiple manager-led teams.
  • Coordinates and oversees threat modeling, security testing, and penetration testing activities for supported platforms and services, ensuring effective coverage and measurable risk reduction.
  • Oversees the integration and incremental improvement of information security technologies within the job area, monitoring adoption, performance, and lifecycle activities.
  • Provides input to senior managers and key functional stakeholders on security issues and risk trade-offs within the job area, translating established strategies into detailed, executable plans.
  • Partners with internal teams and designated external vendors or service providers to ensure the job area’s activities align with cybersecurity standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Applies and upholds established security policies, standards, and best practices across the job area, monitoring adherence and addressing gaps in partnership with team managers.
  • Directs crisis management, incident response, and forensic activities for incidents within direct team, ensuring managers follow defined playbooks, escalated appropriately, and capture lessons learned.
  • Develops and coaches lower-level managers and senior engineers across the job area, reinforcing expectations for delivery, collaboration, innovation, accountability, and performance.
  • Contributes to technology, risk management, and compliance decisions affecting the job area, providing feedback and recommendations into broader security plans and priorities defined by leadership.
  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and work experience in cybersecurity, information technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in security engineering or related cybersecurity roles.
  • Deep expertise in cybersecurity principles, threat modeling, security testing, and penetration testing.
  • Experience with information security technologies, configuration management, and operational handoff.
  • Advanced management and leadership knowledge to manage multiple teams and drive tactical and operational security initiatives.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced certifications in cybersecurity (e.g., CISSP, CEH).
  • Experience with security automation and orchestration tools.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Familiarity with emerging cybersecurity technologies and trends.
  • Prior experience in a technical security engineering role within enterprise environments.
