Position: E911 COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER I

Unclassified Position

Current vacancies are in the Emergency Services Department. Starting salary for this position is $47,548.00.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by one year of work experience that shows an ability to maintain steady employment in any field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Experience credit will be granted for each active certification the applicant possesses from the list below.

Certifications and Licenses Required
  • Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification – must be attained within one year of employment and maintained during employment.
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Certification – must be attained within one year of employment and maintained during employment.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification – must be attained within one year of employment and maintained during employment.
  • Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification – must be attained within three years of employment and maintained during employment.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses – must be attained within one year of employment and maintained during employment.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Veterans Preference

Qualifying veterans will be given preference in the form of a guaranteed invitation to interview for any position to which they applied and have been found to have met the minimum qualifications. Veterans’ preference provides for hiring preference on initial appointment only.

Special Requirements
  • Consent to and successful completion of a background investigation, critical assessment, psychological evaluation, physical/drug screening, and polygraph.
  • Minimum age eighteen (18) years.
  • Citizen of the United States.
  • Ability to type at a speed of not less than 25 net words per minute.
  • Work within a 24‑hour, seven‑day operation and perform shift work as required, including holidays and weekends.
  • No disqualifying criminal convictions.
Recruitment Process

During the recruitment process, candidates will be scheduled for a pre‑employment test and a two‑hour shadow session in the Operations Center to observe the duties of an E911 Communications Officer. The test is a computerized assessment used to measure underlying skills and abilities.

Examination

The examination consists of a review of education and experience. All required documents must be submitted at time of employment.

Purpose of Classification

This classification is responsible for answering and processing emergency and non‑emergency calls through the 911 communications system. Responsibilities include answering calls from the general public, entering information into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, and coordinating with service providers.

Essential Functions
  • Answer incoming emergency and non‑emergency voice, text, and TDD calls from the public and determine nature of call.
  • Assign priority to calls and simultaneously enter information into the CAD system.
  • Provide life‑saving and pre‑arrival instructions to callers in emergency medical situations.
  • Monitor and process alarm calls, maintain report logs, and relay information received from the Fulton County Alarm Board.
  • Coordinate services with Fire, Police, and Emergency Medical Services.
  • Identify and correct outdated CAD information.
  • Respond to calls using a Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD).
  • Perform other related duties as required.
