A mid-sized commercial general contractor in the Southeast is seeking an experienced In-House Counsel to lead all construction-related legal matters. The company operates across multiple regional markets and specializes in commercial projects including industrial, retail, medical, and office developments.
Position SummaryServe as the primary legal advisor to executive leadership and project teams, overseeing contracts, claims, disputes, compliance, and risk management. This role requires a business-minded attorney who can deliver practical legal guidance in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Qualifications- 5+ years of legal experience (construction, real estate, or commercial law preferred)
- Construction litigation experience preferred
- Experience supporting contractors or construction-focused organizations strongly preferred
- Proficiency in construction contracts, risk allocation, claims, and dispute resolution
- Ability to manage multiple matters and provide clear, actionable guidance
- Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts and related agreements
- Advise on contract interpretation, change orders, delays, and claims
- Manage disputes and outside counsel
- Ensure compliance with applicable construction laws and regulatory requirements
- Support risk management, licensing, bonding, and insurance matters
