Title: Data Retention & Disposition Specialist (Law Firm Experience Required)
Hybrid: (On-Site – Tues-Thurs)
Location: Midtown – Atlanta
Compensation: $65,/year (based on experience)
Vaco is partnering with a reputable, international law firm to hire a Data Retention & Disposition Specialist (Hybrid-Midtown-Atlanta). The firm is seeking a Data Retention & Disposition Specialist to support its Information Governance program. This role works closely with the Information Governance Compliance Manager and the Director of Records & Information Governance to implement, maintain, and enhance firm‑wide data retention and disposition processes.
The specialist will collaborate with attorneys, administrative teams, IT, and outside vendors to ensure compliance and reduce risk. To be considered, candidates must have 2‑5+ years of experience at a law firm.
- Implement and maintain data retention and disposition processes and procedures.
- Lead firm‑wide initiatives aligned with policies and industry best practices.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to data retention and disposition.
- Develop and enhance compliance processes and supporting documentation.
- Serve as a liaison to attorneys and staff on IG and retention issues.
- Monitor changes in legal records and IG standards; create educational materials for attorneys.
- Partner with lawyers, operations, and administrative teams to update policies, procedures, and training.
- Manage projects, resources, and priorities effectively.
- Coordinate with external vendors as needed.
- Create, review, and maintain IG policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
- Update documentation to reflect policy changes.
- Act as project manager on Risk Management and IT initiatives; collaborate closely with IT teams.
- Work with records & teams to ensure proper management and disposition of paper and electronic records.
- 2-5+ years of experience within records and information governance, especially data retention and disposition (legal industry required)
- Experience with information governance technology tools, including File Trail and Microsoft Office (MS Excel expertise required).
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
