Workers’ Compensation Legal Assistant

Location: Atlanta, GA
Position Type: Full-Time – Legal Support Staff
Reports To: Workers’ Compensation Attorneys / Team Lead

About the Role

The Workers’ Compensation Legal Assistant provides essential administrative and litigation support to attorneys in the Workers’ Compensation group. This role requires excellent organizational skills, a strong grasp of legal processes, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic law-firm environment. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative setting, demonstrates attention to detail, and contributes effectively to a team handling workers’ compensation and related defense work.

Duties may be adjusted based on firm needs and evolving case priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and draft legal documents, correspondence, cover sheets, and transmittals related to workers’ compensation defense matters.
  • Manage case files, including opening new matters, tracking deadlines, calendar management, and closing cases.
  • Prepare settlement agreements, file pleadings, and coordinate document production and service.
  • Transmit, review, and organize legal documents received from courts, clients, opposing counsel, and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain and update internal case management systems, including critical dates, court filings, and deadlines.
  • Answer phones and assist clients, carriers, and other parties with routine inquiries regarding case status and scheduling.
  • Coordinate scheduling for hearings, mediations, depositions, attorney meetings, and other case events.
  • Assist with legal research and ensure proper filing of documents in accordance with local court rules and procedures.
  • Support attorneys and paralegals in preparing for trials, hearings, and client deliverables.
Required Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a legal assistant or legal support staff, preferably in a defense practice or workers’ compensation environment
    .
  • Strong familiarity with legal terminology, court procedures, and litigation support.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and legal case management software.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage time effectively while handling competing priorities.

  • Experience supporting litigation teams (document preparation, research, discovery tracking).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to high-quality work product.
  • Experience with electronic filing systems and calendar management tools.
