Job Title: Purchasing Manager (Steel Fabrication)

Location: Greater Atlanta

Compensation: $75,000 – $110,000 base + performance-based bonus

Company Overview:

Tiello has partnered with a highly reputable Structural Steel Fabricator in the Atlanta market on their search for a Purchasing Manager to lead and modernize their steel procurement strategy. This organization is known for delivering complex structural steel projects and is focused on optimizing mill-direct purchasing, inventory coordination, and material cost control to support fabrication and production schedules.

Role

Summary:

The Purchasing Manager will take ownership of the structural steel procurement process
, sourcing material directly from mills, negotiating pricing, and aligning purchasing decisions with fabrication and field schedules. This role will be instrumental in reducing reliance on warehouse vendors, improving material utilization, and driving measurable cost savings across projects.

This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and offers high visibility, autonomy, and impact.

• Source structural steel directly from mills and service centers
• Negotiate pricing, volume discounts, and long-term supply agreements
• Track market conditions and develop proactive pre-buying strategies

• Coordinate delivery timelines with production and field teams to ensure just-in-time material arrival
• Align Advanced Bills of Material (ABM) with latest shop drawings and revisions
• Manage drawing changes and PCOs to minimize scrap and capture vendor credits
• Vet vendors, monitor performance, and maintain strategic supplier relationships
• Conduct monthly vendor visits (2–3 per month)
• Implement material tracking strategies to optimize inventory usage
• Potential oversight of ancillary procurement (bolts, studs, specialty fasteners)

• Maintain detailed procurement records and purchasing KPIs
• Report performance metrics, cost savings, and ROI to leadership
• Lead quarterly procurement performance reviews

Qualifications / Requirements:

• Strong understanding of structural steel products (WF beams, tube, plate, misc metals)
• Experience sourcing steel from mills and managing lead times
• Proven success negotiating pricing and procurement contracts
• Ability to read and interpret shop and fabrication drawings
• Experience coordinating with detailing, engineering, and production teams
• Proficiency with ERP / MRP systems (STRUMIS, Tekla EPM, Fab Suite, or similar)
• Eligibility to work in the U.S.

• Existing relationships with steel mills or service centers
• Experience with nesting optimization and material allocation
• Knowledge of freight logistics for steel deliveries
• Comfort working independently in a remote-first environment
