AMX is looking for a Strategic Capacity Lead who knows how to build carrier relationships and turn them into reliable, repeatable capacity. This is not a transactional role. The focus is on penetrating routing guides, capturing waterfall freight, and locking in contract capacity across lanes that matter to our customers. You will own the carrier side of the business, from first contact through onboarding and well beyond, building the kind of density and trust that keeps capacity committed to AMX when the market tightens.
WhatYou ll Do
- Prospect, qualify, and onboard carriers that align with AMX's lane network and customer commitments.
- Work routing guides strategically, positioning AMX carriers to capture primary, secondary, and waterfall tender opportunities.
- Build and manage a portfolio of contract capacity relationships across key lanes and regions, with a focus on repeatability and consistency.
- Execute disciplined follow-up post-onboarding to ensure carriers are active, engaged, and moving freight, not just sitting in the system.
- Re-engage carriers after loads to drive reload efficiency, build lane density, and reduce dead miles for your carrier base.
- Maintain accurate carrier records, performance notes, and lane preferences in the TMS, keeping your book current and actionable.
- Partner with account managers and operations to match committed capacity to customer freight before going to the spot market.
- Monitor carrier performance and proactively address service issues before they become customer problems.
- 2 or more years of experience in freight brokerage, carrier sales, or capacity procurement at a 3PL.
- Proven ability to build and maintain long-term carrier relationships, not just book loads.
- Familiarity with routing guide management, contract freight, and waterfall tender processes.
- Disciplined follow-up habits and a high volume of daily carrier touchpoints.
- Strong communicator who can negotiate rates, resolve issues, and keep carriers coming back.
- Comfortable with repetitive outreach and understands that consistency is what builds density.
- Experience with a TMS platform;
McLeod familiarity is a plus.
- You have a carrier book you ve built over time and those carriers answer when you call.
- You understand the difference between a carrier you ve used once and a carrier you own.
- You follow up after every load, not because someone told you to, but because that s how you reload.
- You know how routing guides work and you position your carriers to be first call, not last resort.
AMX is an acquisition-driven growth company. Strong performers in capacity have a path into senior capacity roles, lane ownership, or carrier network leadership as the business expands. The people who build the carrier relationships today will have outsized influence on how this company operates at scale.
