Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Operations supports departmental functions by assisting with planning, evaluation, execution, and reporting. This role helps oversee business operations, supports strategic initiatives, and ensures effective program administration. The position also acts as a key liaison between the department and internal/external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the RVP in leading departmental operations, including planning, directing, and evaluating performance.
  • Provide financial oversight, prepare operational reports, and recommend cost‑control strategies to enhance efficiency.
  • Supervise departmental staff and ensure unit‑level objectives align with broader goals.
  • Contribute to short‑ and long‑term strategic planning and goal‑setting.
  • Advise on company involvement in University‑wide programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Facilitate cross‑departmental coordination to align efforts and avoid conflicts.
  • Monitor and improve internal processes, compliance measures, and reporting systems.
  • Assist in the development and revision of departmental policies.
  • Remain current with industry trends and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Represent the department on committees and user groups as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5–10 years of progressive leadership experience in Plant Operations & Maintenance (POM), with a strong record of cost control in complex settings.
  • Experience in college/university facility management required.
  • Strategic thinker with strong leadership, planning, and communication abilities.
  • Solid business acumen and a collaborative approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative, accountability, flexibility, and effective team leadership.
