The Opportunity: This Director of Public Relations and Social Media will report directly to the Corporate Vice President (CVP), Global Brand and Marketing and will lead and manage two team members.
This role is responsible for leading external communications strategies that elevate and protect the LIMRA and LOMA brands, strengthen organizational reputation, and position the organizations and their leaders as trusted thought leaders within the global insurance and financial services industry. This role oversees media relations, proactive thought leadership, crisis communications, and social media strategy, working closely with senior leadership and internal partners to ensure consistent, compelling, and strategic messaging across all external channels.
What You'll Do:
Public Relations & Media Relations
- Develop and execute a comprehensive PR strategy that advances brand visibility, credibility, and influence for LIMRA and LOMA.
- Proactively identify and secure high-impact media opportunities, including interviews, bylines, op-eds, and speaking engagements for organizational leaders and subject-matter experts.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and manage relationships with key reporters, editors, and industry publications.
- Track, analyze, and report on media coverage, sentiment, and impact, translating insights into actionable recommendations.
- Lead crisis communications planning and execution, including message development, rapid response, and coordination with senior leadership.
- Set and oversee the social media strategy across platforms to support brand awareness, thought leadership, event promotion, and member engagement.
- Ensure consistent voice, tone, and visual identity aligned with global brand standards.
- Guide content planning, editorial calendars, and campaign integration in collaboration with marketing, events, research, and product teams.
- Monitor trends, platform changes, and emerging best practices to continuously evolve strategy and performance.
- Oversee analytics and reporting to measure effectiveness and optimize engagement and reach.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of PR and social media professionals, fostering high performance, collaboration, and innovation.
- Partner closely with marketing, research, membership, events, and executive leadership to align communications with organizational priorities.
- Maintain strong relationships with peers at member firms, sister trade associations, and external partners to identify collaboration opportunities, support industry campaigns and expand external reputation.
- Manage agency and vendor relationships as needed to extend capabilities and scale impact.
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in public relations, communications, or media relations, including leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success securing national and industry media coverage and managing executive-level thought leadership.
- Experience in financial services, insurance, or a membership-based organization preferred.
- Deep understanding of social media strategy, content development, analytics, and platform governance.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, compelling messages.
- Proven experience advising senior executives and navigating reputational risk and crisis situations.
