Job Description

The Director of Development at Chastain Horse Park is a senior leadership role advancing the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability. This position is responsible for securing philanthropic support to expand programming across Atlanta and throughout Georgia, building on the momentum of recently completed $10 million in capital improvements. The role combines strategic fundraising, leadership, relationship building, and collaborative teamwork to support continued growth and community impact.

Working closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, the Director of Development will grow revenue by cultivating key donor relationships, securing new donors, designing fundraising events that successfully generate funding, and increasing cultivation and engagement between donors and the organization.

The successful candidate will be an experienced fundraiser, team leader and supportive team player. S/he will provide executive‑level leadership and seamlessly transition between leading innovative efforts and tasks; collaborating on initiatives with the Executive Director, colleagues and board members; and coaching team members. The candidate will possess an entrepreneurial spirit and competencies in effectively cultivating long‑lasting relationships, developing and executing fundraising strategies, and seamlessly moving donors through the gifting process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan aligned with organizational goals and growth initiatives
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, major gift prospects, and leadership‑level supporters
  • Manage portfolio of donors including relationships with Atlanta‑area foundations, individuals, corporate partners, and philanthropic institutions in collaboration with the Executive Director; network and maintain regular correspondence with donors
  • Generate donor communications, newsletters, and annual report; creation of print, digital and social media content
  • Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of existing and new fundraising events, ensuring strong financial performance and donor engagement
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and program staff to align fundraising priorities with programmatic needs
  • Partner with the Board of Directors to support donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Manage grant writing and identification of new grant opportunities; oversee donor communications, including appeals, acknowledgments, impact reporting, and stewardship strategies
  • Maintain accurate donor records and reports, ensuring accountability
  • Monitor fundraising performance, track progress toward goals, and provide regular reports and updates to leadership
Leadership and Collaboration
  • Lead the existing development team and expand the team as needed
  • Serve as an active and collaborative member of the senior leadership team
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, transparency, and shared accountability across departments
  • Provide guidance and support to staff and volunteers involved in fundraising initiatives
  • Represent Chastain Horse Park professionally in the community and at donor‑facing events
Qualifications and Experience
  • Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, with demonstrated success in donor solicitation, cultivation and stewardship
