Compensation: $1,500 micro-grant (project award for supplies & implementation)

POSITION SUMMARY
Greening Youth Foundation is seeking creative and motivated college students to join our Sustainability Micro-Grant Program, a leadership initiative that supports students in designing and executing a sustainability project that benefits their community or campus.
Selected Fellows receive a $1,500 micro-grant, training, mentorship, and the opportunity to present their work on a nationally recognized day focused on service, environmental stewardship, or community impact.

COHORT SCHEDULE (3 PER YEAR)
Cohort 1 — Earth Day Presentation (April)
Focus:
Conservation, waste reduction, renewable energy, gardens
Cohort 2 — Juneteenth / Summer Presentation (June)
Focus:
Climate resilience, food access, youth engagement

Each cohort lasts 6 weeks, covering proposal approval → implementation → reporting → final presentation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Sustainability Fellows will:
Develop a project that addresses a real sustainability need
Submit a proposal and budget for approval
Implement their project over a 6-week period
Attend training workshops (virtual or in person)
Track expenses responsibly and submit receipts
Collect before/after photos and impact documentation
Submit a 5–7 page final report
Deliver a final project presentation on MLK Day, Earth Day, or Juneteenth/Summer

ELIGIBILITY
Must be enrolled in a 2- or 4-year college or university
Ages 18–28
Project must be based in a real community (neighborhood, campus, hometown)
Interest in sustainability, climate justice, environmental health, or innovation
Priority given to HBCU students, first-generation students, and BIPOC applicants

IDEAS FOR POSSIBLE PROJECTS
Community clean-up or beautification
Solar or energy-saving awareness campaigns
Urban gardening, composting, or food access initiatives
Water conservation or watershed protection projects
Waste reduction, recycling, or upcycling programs
Green space activation for seniors, youth, or vulnerable populations
Climate education projects or community workshops

COMPENSATION
Each Fellow receives:
$1,500 micro-grant to fund project supplies, materials, tools, and outreach
Training in sustainability, project design, and community engagement
Mentorship from GYF environmental professionals
Certificate of Completion
Recognition through GYF, UPS, and Sol Systems platforms
