Job Summary

The Associate Director of Philanthropy (Major Gifts) is responsible for engaging high-net-worth individuals and family foundations to secure critical funding for CARE’s mission.

Reporting directly to an Executive Director of Philanthropy, the successful candidate will:

  • Manage a portfolio of 150–200 donors and prospects
  • Cultivate donors capable of giving between $10,000 and $50,000
  • Secure gifts of $25,000+
  • Drive both unrestricted and program-specific funding
  • Focus heavily on new prospect qualification and pipeline growth

This role plays a vital part in strengthening CARE’s financial sustainability and expanding its humanitarian impact.

  • Develop tailored engagement and solicitation strategies for assigned donors
  • Secure gifts of $10,000 and above, with emphasis on $25,000+ contributions
  • Meet or exceed annual and quarterly fundraising targets
  • Educate donors about the tangible impact of their contributions
  • Connect donors to CARE leadership and program teams
  • Cultivate long-term relationships that increase donor investment over time

This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, storytelling ability, and relationship-building expertise.

Building a strong donor pipeline is essential to long-term success.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and qualifying new major gift prospects
  • Activating leads from events, influencer networks, donor-advised funds (DAFs), and board referrals
  • Partnering with the Prospect Research team to prioritize high-potential donors
  • Maintaining accurate donor records and strategy plans in Salesforce
  • Developing engagement strategies tailored to next-generation philanthropists

The position requires both creativity and analytical skills to manage pipeline growth effectively.

Internal Collaboration

Fundraising is a team effort at CARE.

The Associate Director will:

  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify funding opportunities
  • Serve as a liaison between donors, Board Members, and program leaders
  • Represent the Major Gifts team with professionalism and enthusiasm
  • Embody CARE’s values of inclusion, integrity, and partnership

Strong internal relationship-building skills are essential to succeed in this role.

Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a fundraising role
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following will strengthen an application:

  • Experience working with a large nonprofit or international NGO
  • Project management experience (especially events)
  • Proficiency in Salesforce or similar CRM systems
  • Proven track record of securing 5- and 6-figure gifts
