Internship Summary

An internship at the Alzheimer’s Association provides students with real-world experience working in a not-for-profit organization and the opportunity to contribute to the Association’s vision of a world without Alzheimer’s disease. Students will become part of the development team, gaining exposure to career tracks such as program and services development.

The internship program is designed to:

  • Attract and introduce a diverse group of students to the world of not-for-profit work.
  • Provide the Association with the enthusiasm, energy, and idealism that students bring to their work.
  • Educate, mentor, and prepare students for potential employment with the Alzheimer’s Association.

Interns will work no more than 35 hours per week. Some night and weekend work may be required. Interns will receive course credit only.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with coordination of the six 2015 Metro Atlanta Walk to End Alzheimer’s events and the 2015 Longest Day.
  • Conduct research and outreach related to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s to ensure the target audience is reached.
  • Assist with Walk to End Alzheimer’s team recruitment and retention, including prospect research, marketing, cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Coordinate and attend committee meetings on occasion.
  • Recruit and build relationships with volunteers.
  • Research and follow up on donor inquiries and requests.
  • Assist with mailing and provide other administrative support when needed.
  • Assist with donation entry in Convio database.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Walk Specialist.
Qualifications
  • Student must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university; an official college transcript will be required.
  • Class standing of at least junior level.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in Special Events/Philanthropy.
  • Initiative and self-starting with the ability to function as a team member.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to provide hands‑on assistance as needed.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Volunteer experience with walks/runs or other fundraising events considered a plus.
  • Experience with fundraising software such as Convio or Kintera preferred but not required.
Additional Information

This opportunity is based in Atlanta, GA at the Georgia Chapter Headquarters beginning in the Fall of 2015. Internship sessions run in Fall (September – December) with flexible start/end dates.
