Georgia Gwinnett College seeks an Ameri Corps VISTA to expand sustainable food-security and environmental initiatives that connect food production, fresh-food distribution, nutrition education, and civic engagement to poverty reduction.

The Sustainability and Food Systems VISTA will strengthen the Campus Micro Farm and related sustainability initiatives that serve first-generation students, students experiencing food or housing insecurity, students with foster-care experience, and low‑income Gwinnett County residents. This capacity‑building role will create systems that expand access to free, nutritious produce while building long‑term food‑systems knowledge, leadership, and community partnerships.

The VISTA will develop sustainable volunteer‑management, training, safety, operational, seasonal‑planning, food‑handling, produce‑distribution, data‑tracking, and reporting systems for the Campus Micro Farm. They will help strengthen partnerships and distribution practices among the Micro Farm, Campus Care Pantry, campus departments, and community food‑security organizations.

The VISTA will also create reusable workshops and outreach resources focused on food access, food production, preservation, nutrition, healthy eating on a budget, and environmental stewardship. In collaboration with faculty, staff, student organizations, and community partners, the VISTA will develop repeatable structures that connect the Micro Farm with academic learning, service‑learning, civic engagement, and sustainability initiatives such as the GGC Seed Library, Invasive Species Removal Days, and River Rendezvous.

Ideal candidates are organized, collaborative, resourceful, and interested in sustainability, food security, community engagement, higher education, agriculture, environmental education, or nonprofit capacity building. Strong communication, project management, volunteer engagement, partnership development, training, and data‑tracking skills are helpful.

Member Duties : The Ameri Corps VISTA will build sustainable systems that expand Campus Micro Farm food production, fresh‑produce distribution, volunteer engagement, education, and community partnerships. The VISTA will develop volunteer recruitment, training, safety, operational, data‑tracking, and reporting tools. They will strengthen coordination among the Campus Micro Farm, Campus Care Pantry, campus departments, and community food‑security partners to support produce distribution and resource connections.

The VISTA will create workshops and outreach materials on food access, nutrition, healthy eating on a budget, and environmental stewardship. They will also connect the Micro Farm with academic projects, service‑learning, student organizations, the GGC Seed Library, and related sustainability programs while documenting systems and supporting long‑term continuity.
