Position Summary:

The Pre-Operative Nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect provision of professional nursing care to patients prior to surgical and procedural interventions. This role includes patient assessment, education, documentation, and coordination of care to ensure patients are medically prepared, informed, and safe for their scheduled procedures. The Pre-Op Nurse utilizes the nursing process to support patient readiness within the perioperative and outpatient environment.

Position Requirements :
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • RN/LPN with an active license in Georgia.
  • Must hold BCLS & ACLS Certification.
  • Proficiency in IV placement and blood draws.
  • Ability to work independently with detail and accuracy.
  • Must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Leads team and ensures smooth transition pre/intra procedures.
  • Maintains patient documentation.
  • Pre-operative patient education/teaching.
  • Pre/Post-Procedure Phone Calls.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Observes facility policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Conducts pre-operative patient assessments, including medical history, medication review, allergies, and vital signs.
  • Reviews patient charts to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance prior to procedures.
  • Ensures required consents, signatures, and documentation are obtained before the start of any procedure.
  • Provides comprehensive pre-operative patient education, including procedure expectations, post-procedure care, and discharge planning.
  • Performs pre-operative phone calls to confirm instructions, arrival times, and patient readiness.
  • Communicates relevant patient findings, concerns, or abnormal results to the physician and anesthesia provider prior to surgery.
  • Administers pre-operative medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Initiates IV access and prepares patients physically and emotionally for procedures.
  • Accurately documents all assessments, interventions, patient education, and communications in the medical record.
  • Maintains patient safety, comfort, and privacy at all times.
  • Assists with patient flow and ensures smooth transition from pre-operative to intra-operative care.
  • Interacts professionally with physicians, patients, families, and coworkers.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient, physician, and center-related information.
  • Utilizes initiative, maintains productivity, and supports team efficiency.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with coworkers for the benefit of patient care.
  • Performs all other assigned job duties as directed by the Director of Nursing, Administrator, or Providers.
