Position Overview

Behavioral Health Nursing Team Lead – Night Shift – Regular. Provide clinical oversight and day‑to‑day leadership of nursing services within a Behavioral Health program or site. Coordinate nursing operations, ensure safe medication management, support regulatory compliance, and deliver high‑quality behavioral health care. Serve as clinical lead nurse and liaison between front‑line staff and leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight of nursing services at an assigned Behavioral Health location or program.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards and organizational policy.
  • Monitor safe medication administration practices, including documentation accuracy and medication error reporting.
  • Assess and monitor physical and psychiatric health status of individuals served; obtain and document vital signs and clinical observations to identify changes.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, medical providers, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care.
  • Support crisis stabilization efforts and respond appropriately to behavioral health emergencies.
  • Educate individuals served regarding medications, side‑effects, and general health management.
  • Communicate with families, guardians, and care partners regarding health status and treatment updates consistent with privacy regulations.
  • Conduct health‑related quality assurance reviews and infection control monitoring as applicable.
  • Ensure nursing documentation meets clinical, regulatory, and payer standards.
  • Support implementation of evidence‑based behavioral health nursing practices.
  • Assist with onboarding, mentoring, and skill development of nursing staff.
  • Participate in audits, licensing reviews, and accreditation activities.
  • Promote a safe, therapeutic, and recovery‑focused treatment environment.
  • Monitor staffing coverage and communicate needs to leadership.
  • Support performance management, coaching, and corrective action as needed.
  • Model professional nursing practice and uphold organizational standards.
  • Serve as clinical resource for nursing questions and escalation concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Provide day‑to‑day supervision and clinical guidance to RNs and LPNs assigned to the program/site; oversee non‑licensed staff performing delegated health‑related tasks (as permitted by state scope of practice).

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Behavioral Health experience within last 1–2 years required.
  • Minimum Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
  • Active, unencumbered RN license in North Carolina.
  • Minimum one year of nursing experience required.
  • Experience in behavioral health settings strongly preferred.
  • Prior charge nurse or leadership experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric medications and common behavioral health diagnoses.
  • Understanding of crisis intervention principles and trauma‑informed care.
  • Familiarity with behavioral health documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with multidisciplinary teams, individuals served, families, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to prepare reports, maintain accurate clinical records, assess clinical situations, identify problems, and implement interventions.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor nursing staff.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Regularly required to lift 30 lbs; must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs; pull minimum of 25 lbs; squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, stoop; use hands to manipulate objects; stand and walk; demonstrate proficiency in CPR. Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision. Available to work 8‑hour or 10‑hour shifts, including rotating weekends.
