Job SummaryThis position is responsible for performing nursing care and treatments for geriatric patients. The candidate will assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL), monitor patients, and report changes to the charge nurse or supervisor as needed. The role involves independent judgment within the scope of practice for Certified Nursing Assistant.
Responsibilities- Provide care for assigned patients and request assistance when necessary.
- Assist patients with ADL such as bathing, shaving, oral care, styling hair and dressing; distribute meal trays and assist with meal consumption; empty urinals and drainage collection bags.
- Record I&O as instructed; collect routine specimens.
- Monitor patient weight using standing lift and wheelchair scales; monitor vital signs as ordered; document all care and report changes promptly to the Charge Nurse.
- Assist patients in transferring to and from bed, chair, commode or stretcher utilizing safe transfer techniques and equipment.
- Observe for proper circulation; perform range of motion and ambulate patients as indicated in the plan of care; maintain functional maintenance plan.
- Maintain patient rooms: make beds, clean bedside tables, closets; maintain equipment; rinse soiled clothing and store in plastic bags for laundry pickup.
- Escort patients to and from areas of the facility and hospitals as assigned; remain with patients as instructed and assist in all areas of care during routine clinic visits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent from an accredited organization.
- Certified as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Georgia.
- Experience in the care of geriatric patients, preferably in long‑term care.
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.
- Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant.
- Experience caring for the physically ill, preferably in a geriatric or long‑term care setting.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Provide customer service at a level above average.
- Knowledge of human anatomy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other related computer software/databases.
SKILLS:
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational, customer service and multi‑tasking skills.
- Strong nursing assistant skills.
ABILITIES:
- Perform vital signs and recognize normal range.
- Perform simple treatments, assess pain, obtain weight, and assist with ADLs as needed.
- Assist residents with transfers using mechanical lifts when indicated.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Perform basic tests including vital signs and weights.
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.
- Georgia Nursing Assistant Certification.
Shift: Rotating
Pay Band: B3
Salary:
Minimum $16.54/hour – Midpoint $17.96/hour (commensurate with qualifications within the established range)

Conditions of Employment- Pass a Background Check review prior to starting.
- Complete Augusta University Criminal Background Check process.
- May require Georgia Long‑term Care (GCHEXS) Background Check process for positions within Georgia War Veteran's Nursing Home.
- May require physical, drug screening, or credit check.
- Credit check may be required for Positions of Trust and for approved departmental Purchase Card usage.
- Motor vehicle reports required for positions that involve driving an Augusta University vehicle.
