Job SummaryThis position is responsible for performing nursing care and treatments for geriatric patients. The assistant will help patients with activities of daily living, monitor patients, and report changes to the charge nurse or supervisor as needed. The work allows independence within the scope of practice for the Certified Nursing Assistant.
Responsibilities- PATIENT CARE
:
Provides care for assigned patients and requests assistance when necessary. - ASSIST WITH ADL'S:
Assists patients with ADL's such as bathing, shaving, oral care, styling hair and dressing; distributes meal trays and assists patients in consuming meals; empties urinals and drainage collection bags; records I/O as instructed; collects routine specimens. - PATIENT MONITORING
:
Monitors patient weight utilizing standing lift and wheelchair scales; monitors vitals as ordered; documents all care provided on correct form and reports any changes in patients' condition promptly to the Charge Nurse. - PATIENT TRANSFER
:
Assists patients in transferring to and from bed, chair, commode or stretcher using safe transfer techniques and equipment, such as Hoyer lifts, transfer boards and gait belts. - PATIENT MAINTENANCE PLAN
:
Observes for proper circulation as necessary; performs range of motion and ambulates patients as indicated in the plan of care; maintains functional maintenance plan as instructed. - ROOM AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE
:
Maintains patient rooms, makes beds, cleans bedside tables, closets, etc. daily; maintains patients' equipment; rinses soiled clothing as necessary and stores in plastic bags for laundry pickup; puts up clothes upon return from laundry. - PATIENT ASSISTANCE
:
Escorts patients to and from areas of the facility and hospitals as assigned; remains with patients as instructed and assists in all areas of care during routine clinic visits. - OTHER
:
Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accrediting organization.
- Current Nursing Assistant certification in good standing for the state of Georgia.
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.
- Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant.
- Experience in care of the physically ill, preferably in a geriatric or long-term care setting.
- Knowledge
:
Knowledgeable of providing customer service at a level above average; basic knowledge of human anatomy; proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. - Skills
:
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; detailed-oriented with strong organizational, customer service and multitasking skills; strong nursing assistant skills. - Abilities
:
Ability to perform vital signs and recognize normal range; perform simple treatments, assess pain, obtain weight, and assist with ADLs as needed; assist residents with transfers using mechanical lifts when indicated; maintain confidentiality; follow oral and written instructions; perform basic tests including vital signs and weights.
Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification and Georgia Nursing Assistant Certification.
Shift/Salary/Benefits- Shift: Rotating.
- Pay Band: B3.
- Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint).
- All selected candidates must successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Augusta University.
- Must successfully complete Augusta University's Criminal Background Check process. Candidates for any position within Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home (GWVNH) must also complete the Georgia Long-term Care (GCHEXS) Background Check.
- May be required to complete supplementary pre-employment onboarding requirements such as physical, drug screening and/or credit check.
- May require a credit check for Positions of Trust or approved departmental Purchase Card usage.
- Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that drive an Augusta University vehicle.
- Faculty hires must provide proof of completed academic degree(s) and post-secondary coursework transcripts. Foreign-educated candidates must provide an educational/credential evaluation.
