Description

Job Summary:

Regarded as a clinical expert and role model in the application of the nursing process and evidence‑based practice to manage the complex care needs of specific patient populations. Serves as a resource person to physicians, nurses, patients, and family members. Applies principles of adult learning to plan and conduct educational sessions to promote staff development, student competence, and positive patient/family outcomes.

Role models expert communication skills to colleagues through example.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, facilitate, and evaluate educational sessions for staff development and student competence.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor to new and existing staff, providing guidance on clinical practice, communication, and critical thinking.
  • Coordinate unit‑based clinical orientation programs for new staff, students, and preceptors.
  • Assist the CNS and Unit Director in conducting annual educational needs assessments and developing competency checklists.
  • Ensure compliance with unit policies, procedures, and regulations; maintain knowledge of innovative clinical trends and evidence‑based practice.
  • Integrate patient/family education into staff development programs; collaborate with the patient/family advisory council to develop standardized teaching materials.
  • Model effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families and incorporate cultural beliefs and values into care plans.
  • Contribute to resource evaluation, cost‑containment activities, and overall unit performance improvement.
  • Meet all Clinical Nurse I Employee Commitments and maintain required education, training, and certification.
Qualifications

Minimum required:

  • Graduate of an accredited pre‑licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • 2 years of recent nursing experience and a minimum of 2 years in the area of concentration.
  • Valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS may be required for certain departments post‑hire; additional certifications may be required based on department and specialty.
  • Complete UNE criteria requirements within nine (9) months of promotion or hire, including completion of the Enhancing your Communication HLC#6488.
  • For virtual care activities that may involve multi‑state practice, an active compact/multistate license (eNLC) is required within 60 days of hire.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MSN or DNP degree.
  • Nursing certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Mediate lifting: 20–50 lbs occasionally (0–33 % of workday), 11–25 lbs frequently (34–66 % of workday), and 0–10 lbs constantly (67–100 % of workday).
  • Maximum lift of 50 lbs and carry objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional to frequent standing, walking, sitting, and close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing).
Environmental Factors
  • Blood‑borne pathogen exposure; bio‑hazardous waste; chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors.
  • Communicable diseases; electrical shock; floor surfaces; hot/cold temperatures; indoor/outdoor conditions.
  • Latex exposure, lighting variations, patient‑care handling injuries, radiation exposure.
  • Shift work and possible travel; use of personal protective equipment, including respirators.
