Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant Overview

Naph Care is hiring a Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Physician Assistant (PA) to join our team of medical professionals in Atlanta, GA, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Fulton County Jail.

As a Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged including assessing, diagnosing and treating patients with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribing medications, responding to emergencies, etc.

This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct physical examinations, develop treatment plans and monitor patients.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
  • Administer medications and provide instructions to patients.
  • Monitor and document patient health including vital signs and medical histories.
  • Provide direct patient care, triage, assess patient needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
  • Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
  • Understand and adhere to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well‑being of patients.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report any relevant information.
  • Conduct rounds, evaluate patients returning from off‑site treatment.
  • Admit and discharge patients from the facility.
Qualifications
  • Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate).
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must hold a current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in Georgia.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • An appropriate collaborative agreement with the on‑site Physician.
  • Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred).
  • Be certified in a board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
  • Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Able to work independently and in a team.
  • Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Physical Capabilities

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
