Mental Health Nurse, Psychiatric Care & Support, RN Nurse
Responsibilities
RN – Day shift (7am–7pm, 12 hours). At Laurel Heights Hospital, we are committed to providing the highest quality psychiatric and behavioral care. Our comprehensive pediatric programs and services bring hope and healing to children and adolescents with complex psychiatric, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Treatment programs are structured for youth ages 6–17 dealing with general psychiatric difficulties and trauma. Specialty mental health programs are offered for children with co‑occurring neuro‑developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Our nursing teams use a top‑of‑license approach with RNs, LPNs, and Unit Coordinators dedicated to patient safety and quality care. The RN works under the supervision of the ADON and Director, responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of total nursing care of assigned patients. The RN uses communication, critical thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity.
Responsibilities include supervising and delegating non‑professional personnel and ensuring optimum patient care.
- Demonstrate ability to assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice and meeting unit specific competencies.
- Partner with patients and their families to develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care, treatments, and procedures that contribute to physiological and psychosocial outcomes.
- Facilitate safe patient transitions to the next level of care as part of the care plan.
- Show sense of urgency to ensure patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care and pursue evidence‑based quality outcomes.
- Understand diverse patient populations and modify education methods to ensure patient/family understanding.
- Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation per Laurel Heights standards and regulatory requirements.
- Delegate and prioritize tasks to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence; recognize and respond to emergency situations.
