Charge Nurse

Job Summary

The Charge Nurse reports to the Clinical Staff Manager, and plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. The Charge Nurse delegates, coordinates and readjusts patient assignments.

Consistent with the direction from the Clinical Staff Manager, works to enhance the throughput, quality and customer service in his/her area. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates the process of patient registration and intake, flow of paperwork and visit authorization, and provider scheduling
  • Leads and coordinates activities of Nurses, LPN, Patient Technicians and Clinic Assistants. Participates in the evaluation of employees by providing feedback to Clinical Staff Manager from audits and observations.
  • Communicates and applies policies, practices, and procedures to attain satisfactory patient care.
  • Assesses, plans evaluates and documents the nursing process of assigned care unit as needed. Prepares the assignment of personnel for the area and periodically adjust based on patient need and nurse competency, consistent with direction from Clinical Staff Manager.
  • Maintains par level of supplies and equipment, and conducts monthly supervisory rounds for compliance with environment of care standards.
  • Initiates charge rounds, hand washing, code cart checks and temperature checklists, employee observations, and customer service issues.
  • Takes the lead in unit-specific quality monitoring and Joint Commission preparation.
  • Provides coverage for other staff nurses during breaks and leaves.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing (BSN) or equivalent education and experience.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License in State of Georgia
  • If a Registered Nurse (RN) with an Associate's degree in Nursing (ASN), four (4) or more years direct patient care RN experience including in a charge role.
  • RN with a BSN, two (2) or more years direct patient care RN experience including in a charge role preferred.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider Card.
  • Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required for the following areas:
    • All Critical Care areas
    • Emergency Care Center (ECC/ED) GI/Cath Laboratory
    • Labor & Delivery
    • All Intermediate Care areas Post Acute Care Unite (PACU)
