Westside Atlanta Charter School (WACS) is seeking a compassionate, highly skilled, and student-centered Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to serve as our School Nurse. The School Nurse plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, healthy, and supportive school environment for students and staff.

The School Nurse will provide direct health services, respond to student medical needs and emergencies, manage student health records and medication administration, support students with chronic health conditions, and collaborate with families, staff, healthcare providers, and school leadership.

Essential Responsibilities Student Health & Wellness
  • Provide assessment, triage, and appropriate nursing care to students experiencing illness, injury, or other health concerns.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to medical emergencies and school-related injuries.
  • Develop and implement individualized health plans for students with medical conditions, in collaboration with families and healthcare providers.
  • Monitor students with chronic health conditions, including asthma, diabetes, severe allergies, seizure disorders, and other identified needs.
  • Provide health education and promote healthy habits, wellness, hygiene, and disease prevention.
  • Determine when a student should remain in school, be sent home, or receive emergency medical attention in accordance with school policies and applicable regulations.
Medication & Treatment Management
  • Administer prescription and over-the-counter medications in accordance with physician orders, parent/guardian authorization, school policies, and applicable laws.
  • Maintain accurate medication administration records.
  • Safely manage emergency medications, including epinephrine and other medications prescribed for student health conditions.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate procedures for medication storage, access, documentation, and disposal.
  • Train and support designated school personnel when appropriate and permitted.
Health Records & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date student health records.
  • Review health information and immunization documentation as required.
  • Maintain documentation related to health screenings, medications, injuries, treatments, and health plans.
  • Coordinate required health screenings and follow-up services.
  • Ensure nursing practices comply with applicable Georgia laws, regulations, professional standards, and school policies.
  • Protect student confidentiality and maintain compliance with FERPA, HIPAA where applicable, and school confidentiality requirements.
Emergency Preparedness & School Safety
  • Maintain and regularly review emergency response procedures related to student health.
  • Ensure the health clinic/nurse's office is appropriately stocked and organized.
  • Maintain first-aid and emergency supplies.
  • Participate in school emergency preparedness and crisis response planning.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to strengthen health and safety protocols.
  • Serve as a key member of the school's student support and safety team.
Family & Community Partnership
  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with parents and guardians regarding student health needs.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and community health organizations as appropriate.
  • Provide families with resources and referrals when additional health services are needed.
  • Support a welcoming, respectful, and service-minded experience for students and families.
Collaboration & School Support
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, special education staff, administrators, and other school personnel to support student wellness and learning.
  • Participate in student support meetings, 504 meetings, IEP meetings, and other meetings when health-related expertise is needed.
  • Support attendance by helping address health-related barriers to school participation.
