Job Purpose / Overview
The Parasitology Laboratory Aide is responsible for the collection, processing, and preparation of fecal samples within the Parasitology Laboratory.
Responsibilities- Collect fecal specimens, log them, and scan into loads.
- Prepare samples for setup and meet departmental requirements for parasite loads and Fcombo set‑up rates.
- Accurately build loads, label processing tubes, and split specimens for Giardia ELISA when required.
- Find and locate missing specimens.
- Print and reconcile queue lists.
- Maintain organization of the storage refrigerator and ensure all equipment—hoods, centrifuges, etc.—is in proper condition.
- Observe quality control, calibration, and follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality procedures.
- Keep the work area clean and organized, restock supplies as needed.
- Participate in lab efficiency and quality improvement initiatives.
- Consult with senior peers on non‑complex parasitology tasks to learn through experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills & Abilities- Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in English for participating in team meetings, data entry, and following written directions.
- Positive, can‑do attitude.
- Stationary position required up to 2 hours; may need to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch.
- Required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Potential exposure to biohazards and chemicals; PPE mandatory.
- May work extended hours; close to moderate supervision.
