The Serology PCR Technician is responsible for examining samples for the presence of specific substances (often bacteria) using molecular diagnostic methods.
Responsibilities- Perform and analyze results for vector‑borne, respiratory, GI panels and other non‑PCR tests as required.
- Read, release, and report test results, exercising judgment in evaluating and reporting results.
- Perform equipment maintenance, including knowledge of lab equipment, procedures, quality control, and calibration.
- Develop knowledge of multiple specialties through cross‑training and consultation with senior peers.
- Find missing specimens, print and reconcile queue lists, and library all samples.
- Maintain all departmental equipment and keep the work area clean and organized.
- Restock supplies as needed and participate in initiatives that improve lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
- Adhere to attendance‑related policies, ensuring reliable and dependable attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in enterprise initiatives and special projects.
- Demonstrate ethical conduct, report concerns, and uphold company values.
- MS Degree in Molecular Biology preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Molecular Biology required.
- Typically 0‑1 years of PCR‑related lab experience.
- Laboratory skills, setting up, running, and reading lab tests; operating lab instruments.
- General science background, including hematology/chemistry helpful.
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Positive, can‑do attitude.
- Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as appropriate.
- Personal computer skills: strong typing ability, proficient use of Microsoft Office.
- Extensive standing, phone, and computer use; capable of standing continuously for up to 2 hours.
- Extend and reach with hands and arms; use hands and fingers.
- Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch.
- May be required to lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
- Hearing ability to effectively communicate via telephone and in person.
- Extended hours may be needed.
Laboratory environment with potential biohazards; mitigated by mandatory use of PPE. Work under close to moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment. Potential exposure to zoonotic agents and hazardous chemicals as defined by national standards.
