Job SummaryThe Research Assistant will provide laboratory assistance directly to the Principal Investigator and laboratory team, working independently on techniques such as culture of established cancer and normal cell lines, primary tissue cultures, proteomics (western blot, ELISA), DNA/RNA isolation and purification, PCR/RT‑PCR, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry for immune cells and cancer cells, cloning, and support on mouse models. The role also includes data collection, analysis, maintaining institutional research protocols, and willingness to learn bioinformatics.
Responsibilities- Provide laboratory assistance to the Principal Investigator and laboratory team and work independently on advanced cell culture and molecular techniques.
- Perform proteomics (western blot, ELISA), DNA/RNA isolation and purification, PCR/RT‑PCR, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry for immune cells and cancer cells, cloning, and support on mouse models.
- Collect and analyze research data, maintain institutional research protocols, and willingness to learn bioinformatics.
- Support ongoing research projects through technical work, data collection, documentation, and development of new research techniques and procedures.
- Manage day‑to‑day laboratory activities, including ordering, inventory updates, reagent preparation, and equipment maintenance.
- Analyze and present data verbally and/or in writing, following project guidelines and protocols.
- Perform all other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related life/health science fields and experience in a research or clinical setting.
- OR Associate’s degree in the same fields and a minimum of three years’ experience in a research or clinical area.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to review scientific literature, write technical protocols and reports, and present data in group meetings.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Use sound judgement and work independently.
- Willingness to work with clinical specimens, research animals, and cellular and molecular techniques.
- Shift: Days, Monday – Friday.
- Salary minimum: $17.88 per hour (Pay Band B5); salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range.
- Position fully/partially funded through external sources; continued employment contingent upon availability of funds.
