Augusta University conducts research, including clinical trials in humans, with strengths in conventional clinical trials, community and population health, social, behavioral, and educational research.
Job SummaryThis position will complete data entry, handle biohazards, schedule study visits, perform office duties, audit and travel.
Responsibilities- Data entry into Microsoft Excel or Access; may include data abstraction from the electronic medical record into an electronic data capture system. May be required to learn the electronic medical record system.
- Check temperatures of freezers and refrigerators and maintain an accurate log.
- Orient new research assistants.
- Ship blood or specimens in accordance with regulations; learn how to handle biohazard materials.
- Screen eligible patients in the electronic medical record system.
- Answer office telephone; maintain a study file or binder.
- Schedule future study visits; if trained, measure height, weight, and vital signs in the clinic.
- If trained, safely draw blood for study laboratories.
- Occasionally report during weekends or outside normal hours; assist other personnel as needed.
- Run office/business errands; maintain patient confidentiality.
- Work with students in the conduct of a study.
- May be trained in aseptic techniques in the Operating Room (limited to the research protocol); may travel to external facilities.
- Audit other research assistants and properly store study medications.
- Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science related to the research area, plus experience in a research, basic science, or clinical setting, particularly clinical trials research.
- OR Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field with a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science, or clinical setting, particularly clinical trials research.
Databases, operating systems, spreadsheets, and basic life support (BLS) knowledge.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Knowledge:
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn. - Skills:
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication; detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization abilities. - Abilities:
Maintain confidentiality; use sound judgment; work independently; remember protocols and stay on feet for most of the day.
Shift: Days;
Monday – Friday (work outside of normal hours may be required).
Salary: $17.88 – $18.75 per hour. Pay Band: B5. Salary is commensurate with qualifications within the established range.

- Motor vehicle reports may be required for positions involving driving University vehicles.
