Position Objective
Provide expert statistical support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Viruses Division’s (CORVD) research and surveillance, including study design, advanced modeling (including Bayesian methods), and publication-quality interpretation of results.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide expert statistical support on complex epidemiologic/medical record/lab datasets.
- Support quantitative method development, including Bayesian approaches.
- Develop and diagnose statistical/mathematical models; interpret and present results.
- Contribute to publications and presentations; collaborate across CORVD/CDC teams.
- Introduce/extend innovative statistical approaches to address public health problems.
- Provide expert statistical and support on complex research and surveillance projects involving epidemiologic, medical record, and laboratory data.
- Participate in planning and developing quantitative and statistical methods research, particularly Bayesian methods.
- Provide hypothesis generation, study design, statistical and mathematical model development and diagnostics.
- Interpret and present results for publication in peer-reviewed literature.
- Evaluate, extend, and develop new statistical methods analyses of public health importance.
- Introduce novel and innovative statistical methods.
- Foster collaboration with researchers from CORVD and across CDC to address challenging public health goals with new and improved statistical methods and analytic approaches.
- Assist with preparation of and clearance of scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, scientific presentations, and guidance documents through technical review and recommendations for clearance.
Basic Qualifications:
- MS/MPH with specialization in Mathematics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related field
- Expert knowledge of R and programming languages
- Demonstrated experience performing advanced statistical analyses and model development
- Ability to communicate statistical results clearly to non-statistical stakeholders
- Strong scientific writing/review capability for manuscripts/presentations
- Ability to obtain/maintain Public Trust suitability and comply with CDC policies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Bayesian methods and complex study design
- Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary public health research teams
- Familiarity with CDC-relevant statistical tooling/workflows (e.g., R/SAS environments)
