Job SummaryProvide support services in the operation and maintenance of an academic or research laboratory to include performing analyses; set up, operation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment; and maintaining stock of supplies. Specific duties will be determined based on assignment and unit needs. This position will interact on a consistent basis with academic and/or research faculty members, staff and students. It typically will advise and counsel lab users.
Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) is hiring a temporary lab assistant to support an interdisciplinary team at the Climate and Energy Policy Lab in the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School of Public Policy (SPP). The work would involve running two modeling scenarios and analyzing outputs from GT‑NEMS to estimate the economy‑wide impacts of emerging energy policies, technologies and demand‑supply drivers. There may also be similar analysis using the RMI Energy Policy Simulator.
Responsibilities- Setup, operate and maintain instruments and other equipment used in performing lab tests and experiments.
- Order supplies and materials as required; maintain records.
- Setup laboratory media/equipment for demonstrations.
- May clean instruments, glassware and other lab equipment.
- Prepare and process laboratory samples for use in assigned tests.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Characterize, run and document alternative energy techno‑policy scenarios in the GT‑NEMS modeling system.
- Disseminate research findings in online conferences and seminars.
- Contribute significantly to writing and the preparation of graphics for research papers and reports derived from the modeling analysis.
- Engage with faculties, researchers and external organizations to promote the use‑case of GT‑NEMS for policy analysis.
- Support writing of research proposals to obtain funding for future research.
- Education:
High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma. - Experience:
Up to two years of job related experience. - Experience with NEMS is an essential requirement. Experience with the RMI Energy Policy Simulator is also valuable.
This job requires working knowledge in the use of instrumentation and other lab equipment, laboratory processes and procedures specific to assigned lab. Skills in inventory management and the use of specialized computer applications is required.
Salary$38.50/hr
