Description
The School of Nursing is seeking a skilled and collaborative Lead Research Informatics Analyst to direct the design, implementation, and management of data systems for multidisciplinary research studies. This role sits at the intersection of data management, analytics, and research operations, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and analysis-ready data across the full research lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with research data systems (e.g., REDCap or similar electronic data capture (EDC) platforms), healthcare databases, a solid foundation in data analytics and programming, and the ability to translate study requirements into efficient, scalable data workflows. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bridging research and technology, building systems that enable high-quality data, and contributing to meaningful, data-driven discoveries.
JOB DETAILS FROM DEPARTMENT:
* Design, build, and maintain research databases to support clinical, public health, and behavioral studies.
* Lead data management activities across the study lifecycle, including study setup, data collection, validation, and closeout.
* Develop and implement data quality monitoring frameworks, including validation rules, edit checks, and discrepancy resolution processes.
* Collaborate with investigators and research teams to translate study protocols into data collection tools (e.g., CRFs, surveys).
* Assist with the on-boarding and training of study staff (clinical coordinators and data managers) to ensure data integrity and data provenance and associated documentation required from initial capture to final dissemination and publication.
* Manage and integrate data from multiple sources (e.g., EDC systems, external vendors, surveys, device data).
* Perform data cleaning, transformation, and preparation for statistical analysis.
* Develop queries, reports, and dashboards using tools such as SQL, Python, R, or other statistical software.
* Establish and maintain data governance standards, SOPs, and documentation to ensure compliance and reproducibility.
* Support regulatory compliance with applicable standards (e.g., GCP, HIPAA, NIH, institutional policies).
* Train and support research staff on data systems, workflows, and best practices.
* Identify data-related risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Leads efforts to ensure informatics systems support and advance the research objectives and mission of Emory University.
* Works directly with researchers to document, analyze, and translate their needs into technical designs and informatics solutions.
* Utilizes standard software requirements and design practices to document informatics solutions to support a wide range of research activities across the university.
* Leads project team from concept to closeout phase.
* Applies biomedical informatics technical standards, methodologies, and principles to research-specific program needs, objectives, and outcomes.
* Manages, from a client business perspective, related systems projects.
* Ensures a high level of client satisfaction by monitoring the delivery of ongoing information systems to the enterprise.
* Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* A bachelor's degree and seven years of experience in information technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
* Five years working within a health, research, or academic institution preferred.
* Knowledge of data and information systems standards relevant to the field of biomedical informatics and health systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Hands-on experience with REDCap or similar electronic data capture (EDC) systems. REDCap preferred.
* Strong understanding of research data workflows, including longitudinal and multi-site study designs.
