Provide support services in the operation and maintenance of an academic or research laboratory to include performing analyses; setup, operation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment; and maintaining stock of supplies. Specific duties will be determined based on assignment and unit needs. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and/or research faculty members, staff and students. This position typically will advise and counsel: lab users.

Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) is seeking a temporary Lab Assistant to support the Center for Urban Research in the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School of Public Policy. The City of Atlanta is undertaking a revitalization effort in the Almond Park neighborhood, centered around the Gun Club property. The neighborhood faces a range of ecological and environmental challenges that may affect residents’ health and well-being.

This project will identify and assess these challenges and develop proposed strategies to address them. The broader goal is to support the creation of a neighborhood environment that promotes healthy childhood development by identifying and addressing ecological barriers that may hinder that goal.

• Setup, operate and maintain instruments and other equipment used in performing lab tests and experiments.
• Order supplies and materials as required; maintain records.
• Setup laboratory media/equipment for demonstrations.
• May clean instruments, glassware and other lab equipment.
• Prepare and process laboratory samples for use in assigned tests.
