Business Development Executive
Our client is a global chemical distribution company seeking a Business Development Executive for its division in North America. This is a commercial role for someone who knows how to buy, sell, negotiate, build relationships, and create profitable business in the chemical markets. The right person will manage customer and supplier relationships, identify new opportunities, and help expand the company's presence across North America.
This is not a passive account management role. It is a business-building role for someone who understands chemical trading, distributor relationships, pricing, margins, supply dynamics, and market movement.
You will be responsible for growing sales and profitability across an assigned North American territory.
Key responsibilities include:
- Buy and sell chemicals across the company's product portfolio
- Develop new business with customers, distributors, suppliers, and other market participants
- Grow existing accounts while identifying new profitable commercial opportunities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers
- Prepare pricing, proposals, presentations, market updates, and commercial correspondence
- Track market activity, competitor movement, pricing trends, and regional demand
- Work closely with sourcing, supply, sales coordination, marketing, and leadership teams
- Manage sales volume, gross margin, pipeline activity, and account performance
- Support supplier/product qualification processes in line with company SOPs
- Resolve customer issues quickly and professionally
- Represent the company at industry trade shows, meetings, and networking events
- Ensure all business activity complies with applicable trade laws, regulations, and company procedures
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5-8+ years of successful experience in chemical sales, commodity trading, distribution, or a related commercial role
- 5-8+ years of experience in the chemical industry
- Experience selling to or working with chemical distributors strongly preferred
- A strong understanding of chemicals, market dynamics, pricing, supply, and downstream applications
- Proven ability to create new business and grow profitable accounts
- Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills
- Comfort working with both customers and suppliers
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate market data clearly
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business software
- Bachelor's degree required;
Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or MBA preferred
